being like a child means living for today

“Being like a child means living for today.”

Patio peeps heard me speak on this today.  I really enjoyed spending time on this thought.  God taught me a lot through it.

Jesus says in Luke 18:17, “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child does not enter it at all.”  So understanding what it means to be like a child is central to the Christian faith.

My whole thought pattern was:

“Being like a child means living for today.”

Most people can understand certain aspects or characteristics as to what being like a child is like, so for this message I focused on what it means to live for today.  All the premises below describe how a child reacts in a healthy relationship with the Father.

5 premises explaining what it means to live for today:
1) Living for today means being fully present
2) Living for today means not worrying for future events
3) Living for today means not dwelling in the past
4) Living for today means being willing to go tomorrow
5) Living for today means not being afraid of what’s to come

Being like a child is depending on God like the Israelites did in the wilderness with the manna, like Jesus did when He prayed for the daily bread, and like the disciples heard when Jesus spoke as if the kingdom was at hand.  Children are not focused on tomorrow’s issues, they are more concerned with the playing that this day will bring.  They are innocent, thinking of what it means to please their parents, and seeking what it means to live in this world.  They are not concerned with the past, in fact if they were once hurt, they, if anything like me, had forgotten about it already and were more focused on how to climb that tree, or color that book.
