for the present? or for the future?

I saw this on a new blog I just started following, Boyd Bettis.

We must decide whether we want our ministry to count,
In the momentary applause of popular recognition
Or in the reproduction of our lives in a few chosen people
Who will carry on our work after we have gone.
Really it is a question of which generation we are living for.

I know that I tend to focus on what I’m done now  more than preparing for the future.

Where do you see yourself standing?  For the present?  Or for the future?

for the present? or for the future?
