In many churches Christianity has been watered down until the
solution is so weak that if it were poison it would not hurt anyone,
and if it were medicine it would not cure anyone!”  – A.W. Tozer

I have been lucky in my life to have been in some good churches.  But I have been contemplating over the last few weeks as to why we do the things we do.

If Jesus came to our churches, would he like what he saw?  Would Jesus be lifting his hands, singing praise and shouting as the band reaches a crescendo?  Would Jesus truly care if we had certain types of ministries?

Or would he go and turn the tables over, like he did the money changers?  Would he throw his hands up in the air out of frustration because people honor him with their lips every Sunday for one hour yet destroy his reputation by the way they live their lives over the rest of the week?

I am tired of asking what would Jesus do because I am honestly not sure what he would do in our time.  But because I am desiring to work for a church full-time, I want a fresh perspective on the gospel and on what God desires for our churches.  I think I might start asking what Jesus would see in our churches.

What would Jesus see?  What are your thoughts?

  1. I agree that God’s love should be shown through each of us a lot more.

Also, I would love to see churches to demonstrate God’s love more effectively through its services.

  2. At my old church in Virginia, depending on who you talked to, you might hear:
    1. This is where I go sing hymns.
    2. This is where I go to argue over money and upholstery.
    3. This is where I go because that’s what people expect of me.
    4. This is where I go to tell people what I think.
    5. This is where I go to be a conduit for God’s love.

I think Jesus would be happy if there were more #5’s than anything else.
